The British Heart Foundation plays a key role in research towards the treatment of cardiovascular (ie, the heart and circulatory system) diseases and disorders.

Heart disease is one of the biggest killers in the UK. and the BHF currently runs around 1,200 different research programs. The BHF is the largest single funder of heart disease related research in Britain, despite being almost entirely dependant upon voluntary donations.

In addition to research, BHF runs education and awareness campaigns, and also sponsors two "healthy lifestyle" programmes (Kitchen Detectives and Kid's Fit Squad) on the Discovery Health Channel.

The current billboard campaign shows a man with a tightened belt merged into his chest, highlighting the need to seek medical advice at the earliest opportunity. This follows on from the successful "Breaking Hearts" adverts.
